Sonant vs Insurvoice vs AgentZap vs Tactly: AI receptionists for insurance agencies

A neutral side-by-side of four AI receptionists that market to insurance agencies: published pricing (or quote only), AMS integrations, transfers, and compliance claims, from each vendor's own pages.

Short answer

Tactly ($49/mo) and AgentZap ($109/mo plus a $499 setup fee) publish per-minute plans, Insurvoice publishes one $585/mo plan with unlimited inbound calls, and Sonant is quote only. Sonant, Insurvoice, and AgentZap all list HawkSoft, AMS360, and Applied Epic among their integrations; Tactly lists Zapier, webhooks, and an API instead. All four document transferring calls to a person, so coverage questions can go to licensed staff.

The problem

Four AI receptionists show up again and again when agencies search for an insurance answering solution: Sonant, Insurvoice, AgentZap, and Tactly. They price in very different ways (flat, per-minute, one plan, or quote only), and only some connect to an agency management system. This page puts what each vendor publishes side by side so you can shortlist before booking demos. We have not hands-on tested any of them.

Compliance check

Marked Verified only when the vendor's own page says so (linked). Unverified means we could not confirm it on a vendor page, not that the feature is missing. Ask the vendor in writing. How badges work.

How to choose

  1. Pull last month’s call count and average call length from your phone system. Per-minute plans (AgentZap, Tactly) are cheaper at low volume; a flat plan (Insurvoice) or a volume quote (Sonant) can win at high volume.
  2. Decide whether the receptionist must write to your AMS. If yes, shortlist Sonant, Insurvoice, and AgentZap, and ask each to show a note being written to a test client record in your AMS during the demo.
  3. Decide who handles transfers. Coverage questions belong with licensed staff. Configure transfers to your licensed team, and script the AI to collect information and route, never to quote or bind.
  4. Price the full first year, including setup fees (AgentZap’s $499), overage, and any term commitments.
  5. Pilot on after-hours or overflow calls first, and review a week of transcripts before expanding.

Questions to ask in every demo

  • Does the integration read from the AMS, write to it, or both? Which record types (notes, activities, tasks)?
  • What happens when the caller asks a coverage question?
  • Where are recordings and transcripts stored, and for how long?
  • Is there a term commitment, setup fee, or cancellation fee?
  • Can I see the contract terms before signing?

Compliance notes

  • Licensing. Only licensed staff should discuss coverage specifics. Keep the AI to intake, service requests, and routing.
  • Call recording consent. Some states require all parties to consent, for example California (Penal Code §632). Put a recording notice in the greeting.
  • Outbound calls and texts (such as Insurvoice’s reactivation campaigns) are subject to TCPA consent rules. A vendor’s “TCPA-compliant” claim does not replace your own consent records. See our speed-to-lead guide.
  • This is general information, not legal advice.

Who should skip this

  • Agencies where a person already answers nearly every call, including after hours.
  • Agencies that need a published price before any sales call: Sonant is quote only.
